At the June business meeting Paul took a moment during his last Grand Knights Report to honor a special member of our council with Knight of the Year honors. His recognition of Maury Maher and his contributions to our council and our community this year is below.

“All of the men here qualify for Knight of the Year Honors. The Knight of the Year is typically a man who exemplifies through his life and service o the Council the attributes of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The man I selected to be the Knight of the Year has shown all of these attributes. Fraternity, through his work with the Annual Golf Tournament. A charitable heart exemplified through his work for the summer Sports camp at UGA. Patriotism for his work with the care packages for the troops. Unity through his efforts at smoothing relations between St. Joseph Church and the UGA Catholic Center thereby helping to bring Athens area Catholics a little closer together. Council 6514’s Knight of the Year for 2010…Mr. Maury Maher.”

I couldn’t have made a better choice myself. I wish that we could have chosen earlier and turned in your name to the State Convention for the state award. In the history of the Council the only Knight from our Council to win the State Award was Floyd Wagner (now deceased).
