Thank you to all those who participated in the Soccer Challenge sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The response was overwhelming and over 48 children participated. Thank you very much to Ron, Emily & Jennifer of Athens United who helped make the competition possible.

The three highest overall scores were: Dylan Dellinger- 155 points; Samuel Mattern-Parkes- 130 points & Phineas Alexander with 125 points.

The following were top finishers by age group:

10 & under girls: 1st Rachel Mattern-Parkes; 2nd Neha Mohanty & 3rd Tie between Rachel Duncan, Hallie Meadows & Lilli Sams
10 & under boys: 1st- Samuel Mattern-Parkes, 2nd tie between Andre Lopez & Noah Allen
11 girls: 1st Natalie Allen; 2nd Zoe Peterson
11 boys: 1st Phineas Alexander; 2nd Michael Shirley & 3rd Andrew “Parker” Stiles
12 girls: 1st Alexa Montello
12 boys: 1st Stephan Castile; 2nd Rylan Kennedy & 3rd Giovani Renteria
14 boys: 1st Dylan Dellinger

The top finishers will be honored with a ceremony at Holland on Thursday October 13 at 5:15pm, and 1st place in each age group will advance to the district competition.

Congratulations to all of our participants. Next year we will be back with more goals to accomodate more children.

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players to demonstrate the most basic soccer skill – the penalty kick. Open to all boys and girls in your community, ages 10-14, where each player will be allowed 15 shots at the goal from the penalty line (12 yards from the goal). Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels.

It will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday September 29th at the Athens United Soccer Association Holland Youth Sports Complex located at 250 Vincent Drive, Athens 30602
